What is Scouting?
Scouting is one of the few youth programs today that offers young people the opportunity to build character, learn new skills, increase confidence, become self-reliant, develop leadership skills, and become connected with and give back to their communities.
Today's young people are the leaders of tomorrow. Scouting gives them the tools they need to become "Prepared. For Life.™" and to become outstanding citizens.
Scouting offers a variety of programs specifically geared towards different age groups, interests, abilities, needs and settings.
These include:
- Cub Scouts (boys in grades K-5)
- Boy Scouts (boys ages 11-17)
- Venturing (co-ed age 14-20)
- Learning for Life (co-ed, school age)
- STEM (co-ed, school age)
- Exploring (co-ed, middle school grades 6-8, and co-ed ages 14-20)
The Garden State Council offers a variety of programs to serve the youth of South Jersey in the counties of Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem, plus Buena Vista Township and the Borough of Buena in Atlantic County.

Scouting has come a long way over the past 100 years, and continues to change and grow to meet the needs of our communities while staying true to our mission:
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
